Main Contributions

McCarthy created the programming language "Lisp" in 1958, and coined the term "AI." There was also the act of time sharing, which is a process of several users with different programs interacting at the same time with the CPU. He's won multiple awards, such as the ACM Turning Award and the National Medal of Science.

Interesting Facts

His appearance is similar to that of Colonel Sanders and I think that's kinda funny.

Summary

The overall impact that John McCarthy has had on computer science was incredible, having created different types of efficient use of digital technology. Along with programming languages and digital communication, he was also a philosopher of AI. He unfortunately died in 2011, but his contributions will never be forgotten.
